On
December 25th of 2011, we a group of young people who are willing to
help the children, who are in need of helping hands. The social network was
utilized in a good way and we built our own group and named that group as
Aashayein, later it was changed to Namma Abhiyaana, the group started with
handful of people now growing on with lots of helping hands in one year.
The
main motto of the team was to encourage and help children to get their
education right and all the joyous of child age. As a developing group, the
first work we started was to take small projects and we chose the children who
are in need and also we joined few other groups and contributed our work there
too. An orphanage called desire society, where our first work started was in
need of help for their children suffering from HIV, we joined our hands with
few other groups and helped that orphanage to fulfill their requirements for
Educational purpose for the Academic year 2012-13.
As an independent work of the group we started helping the children who are in need of education around our place, our motto in this kind of activity was to encourage the talents by means of education. The first student was an rural talent, he had completed his Class X with pretty good percentage and he needed some help to continue his education and with small encouragement from us he is now studying Electronics and Communication in Diploma College in Chikkamgaluru. We came to know about a pair of brother and sister who wants help to get their school fees and we stepped in to help them and they are being monitored by bhandavya team ( an active NGO) and our group members. These little works were taken up in order to increase our confidence and also to fill belief in the team. All these work were taken up till December of 2012.

In
the beginning of 2013, we felt it was time to divert our work path to main
motto. Our group chose a rural school called Kalleshwara High school, Mathighatta
in Hassan district, we have started working with that school already and after
our first interaction with the school we learnt the school needs many things of
which we could be of help for few and we decided to start with it.
One of the important point our
team noticed was the girls volley ball team, They are talented and the team has
already participated in many Taluk level, zonal level and state level volleyball
tournaments. Well, least we could do to encourage them was to provide them
Jerseys and we did that. Then in the next session, as per our group study and
the information we got from school, an important point we noticed was the lack
of study materials.
On 26th of January 2013 which was on republic day, our group decided to provide the school, part of their requirement (includes Maps, Charts and Mathematical models etc) and few books for their library.
Then it struck to us that Instead
of simply visiting to school and handing over all these things, we could plan and spend our time with children of that school and so we did. It turned out be golden hours
of our life, it was priceless.
Namma abhiyaana team planned
different games for 8th, 9th and 10th Classes of the school,
like for 8th and 9th fun activities and encouraging their
talents and teaching them to work as team, making them to think and act which
was done via games and for 10th standard opening their imaginative
mind and discussing with our team about their career in future, and of course we had prizes for the Winners too.
When we look back and on our first year while we are proud of what we are doing, we are aware this is still the beginning and there is a lot to be done still, but as they say, a journey of thousand steps starts with the first, we have taken our first and with some more support we will achieve what we are here for, Join us for we often say in the Team, “we believe in helping hands rather than praying”.
